FPS to Frame Time Calculator
Convert frames per second to milliseconds per frame, or convert frame time back to FPS. Compare frame rates to see how much time each additional frame actually saves.
6.94 ms
per frame at 144 FPS
144 FPS has a shorter frame interval than 60 FPS.
Frame time is the interval represented by a frame rate. It is not the same as total input latency or display latency.
FPS to milliseconds per frame
Higher FPS means a shorter time budget for each frame.
| Frame rate | Frame time |
|---|---|
| 24 FPS | 41.67 ms |
| 30 FPS | 33.33 ms |
| 60 FPS | 16.67 ms |
| 90 FPS | 11.11 ms |
| 120 FPS | 8.33 ms |
| 144 FPS | 6.94 ms |
| 165 FPS | 6.06 ms |
| 240 FPS | 4.17 ms |
| 360 FPS | 2.78 ms |
| 480 FPS | 2.08 ms |
Frame time is 1000 divided by FPS
At 60 FPS, each frame represents about 16.67 ms. At 120 FPS, that falls to about 8.33 ms. At 240 FPS, it is about 4.17 ms.
Why doubling FPS does not save the same number of milliseconds every time
The relationship is reciprocal rather than linear. Going from 30 to 60 FPS reduces the frame interval by about 16.67 ms. Going from 60 to 120 FPS saves about 8.33 ms, and going from 120 to 240 FPS saves about 4.17 ms per frame. Higher frame rates still shorten the interval, but the absolute millisecond difference gets smaller.
Frame time is not total system latency
A 6.94 ms frame time at 144 FPS describes the spacing represented by that frame rate. Input sampling, game simulation, rendering queues, synchronization, display scanout and pixel response can all affect the delay you actually experience. This calculator converts FPS and frame intervals only.
FPS and frame time FAQ
How many milliseconds is 60 FPS?
60 FPS corresponds to about 16.67 milliseconds per frame because 1000 ÷ 60 = 16.67.
How many milliseconds is 120 FPS?
120 FPS corresponds to about 8.33 milliseconds per frame.
How many milliseconds is 144 FPS?
144 FPS corresponds to about 6.94 milliseconds per frame.
How many milliseconds is 240 FPS?
240 FPS corresponds to about 4.17 milliseconds per frame.
Is lower frame time better?
A lower frame interval means frames can be produced more frequently. Whether a game actually feels smoother or more responsive also depends on frame-time consistency, rendering, input, synchronization and the display.
Is frame time the same as input lag?
No. Frame time is one timing measurement. Total input latency can include input device polling, game processing, CPU and GPU rendering, queues, synchronization and display behavior.
Why can two games at the same average FPS feel different?
Average FPS does not show how evenly frames arrive. Large frame-time spikes or inconsistent pacing can make motion feel less smooth even when the average FPS is similar.
